Science, pandemic, European Medical Devices Regulation (MDR), materials science compendium

Dear Colleagues,

More than a year full of challenges and special efforts lies behind us. A lot has changed – in the professional and private areas. We all had to face new circumstances. The board of EADT e. V. was only able to carry out club work to a limited extent in 2020 due to the many challenges. For this reason, among others, we decided to suspend the membership fee for 2020 at the last general meeting.

The dental industry quickly adapted to the new situation and became closer together again across disciplines, at least that is our impression. The products that we create and offer in dentistry serve the well-being of the patient. And it is precisely these “end customers”, patients, that are at stake in this special time. People are the focus of the pandemic. We, society, discuss the social responsibilities of different sections of the population, the associated restrictions and numbers, facts and data. Science provides us with evidence of the situation or modeling of scenarios. It is important to us to draw the right conclusions from the relevant data.

The pandemic has taught us one thing: the need to distinguish between important facts and “fake news”. Focusing on what is important helps us. And that is exactly what drives the work of EADT e. V. an – knowledge-based work and its implementation in everyday dentistry. So it is facts and facts that lead to success or sometimes failure. This affects us all – interdisciplinary. We have the dental industry, which supplies us with materials and technologies, dental technology, which advances all of our work with its developments, and we have dental technology and dentistry, which implement the technologies in daily use and combine content with each other. Science should be the basis of our actions. That's why we believe science is one of the winners of the pandemic.

The dental industry is currently dealing with the new European Medical Device Regulation (MDR-Medical Device Regulation). Here too, the basis is quality assurance based on evidence-based data and validated processes for the benefit of the patient. We as EADT e. V. want to continue to transport science – study situation, study results, research projects, etc. – to dental laboratories and dental practices in the future. With our blog posts and the Materials Science Compendium, which is available to members, we would like to neutrally evaluate and present new technologies and materials and provide practical tips for everyday life. As a member of EADT e. V. we invite you to actively work and participate in this project.

The board of EADT eV
