Virtual Planning: Insight into the topic
The visualization of prosthetic restorations has developed rapidly. From classic wax-ups to AI-supported planning tools – the possibilities seem endless. But which technologies really prove themselves in everyday practice and laboratory work, and where might less be more?
Visualization tools promise improved communication and more precise implementation of patient wishes. AI systems support CAD design, analyze anatomical conditions and optimize functional parameters such as occlusal reliefs. New planning tools already integrate large language models (LLMs) for natural language processing. Unlike classic chatbots, these AI assistants process patient histories, findings and treatment plans in the overall context. Multimodal AI analysis - the combination of text, image and 3D data - together with VR technology enables interactive planning environments for team collaboration. Sounds complex? It is - and from a practical point of view it raises many exciting questions that we want to discuss together at the TEAM Talk.
How reliable are these technologies really? What role do dental technology expertise and clinical experience play in increasingly digitalized planning? And more specifically: How can these tools be meaningfully integrated into existing workflows without getting lost in the complexity of the possibilities? Where is the sweet spot between technological innovation and proven craftsmanship?
