IDS 2023 is just around the corner. We at EADT ev will also be there and are curious. We are looking forward to an exciting week. Read our thoughts on the IDS in advance here.
For decades, the IDS has been a benchmark for our industry and has developed into one of the most important platforms for the presentation of new products. But in a time characterized by change, we are all required to adapt to new conditions. This requires flexibility and a willingness to evolve. At the same time, changes offer the opportunity to reorientate yourself and discover new perspectives. And so the IDS will also have to reinvent itself to a certain extent. Higher, faster, further… – this motto, which is often characterized by loud marketing messages, seems outdated. Rather, solid professionalism should be unmistakably convincing; with sound technologies and well-thought-out solutions that improve our work in the interests of patients.
In all likelihood, 3D printing will become a dominant topic. We are excited about innovations in the area of 3D printing materials. And when it comes to 3D printers, interesting solutions can also be expected. Small and smart – 3D printers can efficiently enrich everyday practice and laboratory life, provided the appropriate materials are available. It will be interesting to see how young, specialized companies will present themselves in this area.
In addition, intraoral scanners will certainly be in focus at the IDS. It is to be expected that the already very good devices have experienced another leap in development thanks to sophisticated algorithms. And while hardware (e.g. milling machines, printers, intraoral scanners, etc.) appears to be mature, software expertise is becoming the gatekeeper of digital dentistry. And the basis for everything are the materials.
Materials scientists have persistently researched and diligently developed the dental industry not only for additive manufacturing, but also for subtractive processes. In the area of zirconium oxide, the user is faced with the question of whether multi-layered materials will maintain their pioneering role or whether there will perhaps be one or two surprising discoveries at the IDS.
In addition, manufacturers are relying on innovations in the area of classic restoration and luting materials. Above all, the focus is on simplifying and accelerating clinical treatment. In particular, universally applicable luting materials – universal adhesive systems and luting composites – continue to appear to be an important and correct trend.
We also hope for new, practical solutions for 3D visualization. The aim of modern dentistry is - apart from simply designing the crowns - to be able to view aesthetic and functional restorations holistically and visualize them digitally.
TEAM talk IDS special
EADT eV is also taking part in IDS 2023. Current developments and trends will be discussed with industry representatives at a live TEAM talk: March 16, 13 p.m., Amann Girrbach trade fair stand, Hall 01.2, Stand. C040-D-041. More on that soon!
