On March 12, 2018, the EADT eV consensus conference on the materials science topic “Composite Mechanisms 2018” took place at the LMU Munich. More than 45 invited experts were present and discussed their respective topics in groups.
Composite mechanisms are a topic that is currently often discussed in prosthetic dentistry and materials science and was addressed by EADT eV as part of its 2018 consensus conference. In the run-up to the conference, five different expert groups were formed and staffed with group leaders. What was special about this consensus conference was the format that EADT eV chose. Heterogeneous groups of dentists, dental technicians, dental technologists and scientists were deliberately put together. Each group worked on a topic from the complex areas of composite technologies: adhesion to alloys, composite/hybrid ceramics, oxide ceramics, PAEK, PMMA and silicate ceramics. Together, the group members discussed their topic based on the current scientific literature and formed a consensus under the leadership of the group leader. The aim of the EADT Consensus Conference 2018 was to find agreements in the scientific literature on the respective topics, which at the same time answer relevant questions from everyday prosthetic work in practice and the laboratory. The results will be prepared in a paper for publication.
EADT eV stands for active exchange between dental technology, dentistry, science and dental technology. Consensus conferences like this are an important building block in the work of our professional society.
Further information on the results of the EADT eV consensus conference “Composite Mechanisms 2018” will be published here on the website.
